Time for a change, again.

Around this time last year, I made the decision to make a go of being a full time book designer. I had been running a boutique graphic design studio for ten years, and it was time to do something different. I shuttered the studio, set up a home office, and concentrated on doing what I enjoy doing the most: designing for the printed page, specifically for book covers.

After six years, the blackeye.com site was also due for a change. Thanks to the nimble mind and able hands of Ed Nacional, I now have a site that is a worthy successor to the old one. Ed did a bang-up job of keeping the core feel of the previous site, while bringing it up to date. I think there’s a good mix of Ed’s and my own design aesthetic here, and if you visit his site, you’ll see why I asked him to collaborate with me.

But what’s this? If it’s blackeye.com, then why the big Michel Vrana at the top? Well, as the small print reads at the bottom, Michel Vrana is Black Eye Design and vice-versa. Maybe some day I’ll retire the Black Eye name, but not just yet.

Besides, I’ve got a few boxes of swanky Black Eye Design pub glasses left to give away. Art directors and publishers, keep your eyes on your mailboxes!
